Hi everyone!! It was suggested by the folks on the ebay PG&P board that I post this piece here for help in possibly ID'ing the maker.
The piece measure 1 3/16" to the top & is 1 11/16" across the bottom. It has a polished bottom with 5 round cut facets around the sides. There are 4 circles of canes & then the one cane in the center. Someone on the PG&P board asked if there was a P in the center cane which there is not. All of the surfaces has the feel of good quality glass.
Thanks for any & all advice or opinions!!!

Hi
Welcome to the board, this is a weight by Perthshire Paperweights, I don't have my book to hand to confirm the design number but if no one else confirms it I will
check tomorrow for you.

Thank you so much Nick!! I very much appreciate the help & will report back to the PG&P board member that they were indeed correct in their thinking.

Hi bearcrystal,
It is always best to wait until an ID is fully confirmed.
Nick may well be correct, but all I can see, for miniature weights having four rows of canes, in The Complete Guide to Perthshire Paperweights (Mahoney, McClanahan 1997) is the design PP3 - but this is not stated as being faceted.
Also, could you please confirm the colour of the ground of your weight - is it really light blue and dark blue? Or is that a lighting effect?
-
Hi Kevin. The base color is a dark blue.
Thanks for your help.

Hmm
Sorry Peggy I may have jumped the gun a bit, I too have been through the Perthshire book now and like Kevin cannot find a match, by the canes I immediately thought Perthshire but maybe it's a later Peter McDougal weight? Not had any of his myself to confirm, hopefully someone else will have some idea.

I must admit my first thought was PMcD, but I'm now tending to the Perthshire view. The canes in the weight look less complex than usually found in Peter's own-label weights, even the entry-level inexpensive ones.
I thought that Peter tended to include a PMcD cane in his post Perthshire work. Having said that I have an early PMcD own-label weight of a different design that has both P and PMcD canes.

Just to say that I've just discovered that Peter used to include both P and PMcD canes in some weights he made whilst still working for Perthshire.

I appreciate everyone's input. I have looked at the canes multiple times & if there is a letter or letters inside any of them I have not been able to find it even using a jeweler's loupe.
Luckily this piece is small so it can sit over there on the shelf for awhile until hopefully someone recognizes the maker.

Interestingly I thought it was an earlier John Deacons piece? Quite often found with a thistle cane and a made in Scotland thistle label, but possibly neither.
-
A PG&P poster (ownedbybear) suggested this paperweight may be made by Strathearn. I took a look through an on-line (Richard More Strathearn photos) site but didn't see one like this one. A couple were close but not exact matches.
Can anyone confirm or deny this ID?

Although this one has bubbles in it, this is the period I think it's from.

Anyone?
-
I considered John Deacons but I've only ever seen them witth a central picture cane mostly the thistle?
-
I have seen them without them, and they do turn up with J canes like this one:

I've also seen a rose cane but not seen one myself with a standard cane, the ebay linked one does seem very similar to the original query though.
-
I just looked at the central cane again using my jewelers loupe & while I can not see a letter or any type of image because of the size of the cane, that cane does appear different than the other canes. All the other canes appear "full" where the center cane appears to have a "gap" between the "outside ring" & the "center post".
I know I am probably not using the correct terminology to describe the central cane, but hopefully you understand what I am trying to say.
Thank you again for all the assistance with this paperweight!!!!
