Hello Dave, and welcome to the board. It sounds like your figure is a Komaromy. Could you add photos so that we can see it and be able to confirm that? I have no idea if it's fixable or whether it'd be worth it, but I'm sure others will have advice and opinions to share with you.

Hello Dave,

I have sent a message to a wonderful lampworker who may be able to help.

I have given her the link to this thread, so hopefully if she is in the country, she will get in touch with you. :)
I collect Komaromy Figures and hate the thought of this one languishing broken and not on display.  :(

Thank you for replying.  I have been unable to load the photo's on this site for some reason, if anyone has any tips i will upload photo's.  It is the same as in the link that vidrioguapo put on from the lamp workers catolougue. Thanks Dave

Photos resized and added to original post at the top. Sorry for not doing it sooner Dave, Hotmail decided you were a junk message and binned you, I just found it now when looking for another missing email.  ::)

I don't believe she's Komarovy, sorry.
She has great thick ankles - Komarovy ladies don't.
The rest of the modelling isn't right either.  :'(

Here are a couple in the same pose, or very similar.
I don't think it helps that Dave's photos are rather small and blurry.

Maybe it's the angle the pics are taken from?  ???
She doesn't look at all elegant to me.  :-\

But you know far more about Komarovy than I do, rosieposie.

They ain't all that small, but they are a little out of focus.

This is DEFINITELY Istvan's Komaromy's work - I guarantee this, as his daughter.  Sometimes,  the ankles were less 'skinny' - just like us!! It's where he joined on the dancer to the base, which he made separately as its blown, not sculpted.

As far as having a repair done, you could do worse than to contact Bob Martin (The Glass Workshop) who used to work at Pirelli's.   Hope this helps.

Thank-you so much!
I don't know terribly much about your father's work, I do know there was somebody else doing similar, but not of such high quality - and I always check for "cankles" - using this as a feature to help me decide.
Now I know I can't do that any more.  :)

Thank you so much  for answering my 'call for verification' so quickly Chris. I had no doubts at all,  but Dave needed to be certain... I hope he contacts Bob Martin and has this repaired,  I can't bear to think of your Father's work languishing broken.  :'(

My collection is slowly growing, with a new little pony added as the latest piece.... treasure!!  :)

You're most welcome - perhaps the wrong time of the month made the 'cankles'  bigger occasionally!!!
He had many students over the years and a very few went on professionally to work in his field - who is the person you know of who does similar work ?

I don't know the name, sorry.
The figures tend to be on black pedestals or have black bits of glass attached.

Be interested to have a look at any photos you may have as may be able to help! Any time.

Maybe you mean Rowan Van der Holt's Work chopin-liszt?
Beautiful work, and I have contacted her to see if she might be interested in some restorative work....no reply as yet,  but early days.

No, not Van der Holt. Far too sophisticated for the bits I'm thinking of.
The figures tend to be white glass, often as the stems of glasses, and just a "poor-man's Komaromy" .
I'm just learning, please forgive me intruding in this thread with my rather banal comments.  :-[

Well. to add to all this after all this time.  Dave did end up selling this piece and I bought it. John made a half sphere of wood and sank the end into it.. so the finish is very like the stags and a couple more pieces I have and so now it can be displayed.  I also have one in a very similar pose with the proper glass sphere base, so I can see what she would have looked like.
You can see them both in this group photo. :)

Thank you Nancy...  I couldn't bear for her to be shut away in a cotton wool lined box... and it is wonderful to see her 'dancing' again. :)

Your hubbie is a clever chappie, Rosie, he's made a super job of the base and she looks fab again now. :)
