Title: Mdina or Mtarfa Jack in the Pulpit
Post by: adam20 on June 01, 2013, 09:24:17 PM
Here is a Mdina Jack in the Pulpit 8 inches high - signed to base. What era is this and is this form quite common.

Hi Adam, I think these are Mtarfa, not 100% sure on date, although I would guess around the 80s.

Wow - I thought these colours were so Mdina, here is a pic of etched mark which I thought also said Mdina.

Thanks for the extra picture, that's a tricky signature! - Interesting to hear other views on it. Regarding your vase, it was the shape that makes me think more towards Mtarfa. I haven't seen that many Mdina JIP vases, although I'm not that familiar with some of the more recent production. Hope this helps a little.

I think the sig is more Mtarfa than Mdina along with the shape

My first thought was Alum Bay!
However, it is a lot chunkier and thicker and the flat polished base is wrong. I have never seen a Mdina JIP. I would strongly suspect Mtarfa, but I'd like to see the mark the other way up.
