Title: Textured turquoise footed vase. Whitefriars?
Post by: Otis Orlando on June 02, 2013, 06:40:48 PM
Can anyone identify this footed vase please.   The stem is not central to the vase.  The turquoise colour is darker around the base of the vase and then fades as it reaches the rim.  Lots of minute air pockets around the vase, stem and base.  The top half of the stem, there are a few elongated striation lines.  The textured diamond shape design is prominent and can be felt by touch, mainly around the bottom half of the vase. The only reason why I think it maybe Whitefriars is solely based upon a pattern design I have seen on the Whitefriars site that bares similarities.

Overall height 20.3cm(8"),

Rim dia. 5.4cm(2 1/8")

Pontil dia. 1.8cm

Hi Otis - Empoli would be my first guess for this type of item, one in a similar vein shown in the link below.

Or Portuguese?
I have a ribbed large brandy glass type vase with a bubble stem that looks to be the same colour.

Hi, If you are referring to the rib on the stem, well various countries used this type of shape.  The colour is common I would of thought, so I am now wondering if the patterned design is what you mean.  I'm just trying to find out why you think it maybe Portuguese based upon the colour.

no reason other than the colour of the vase and the colour of the stem.
