just sat and watched a monart vase on ebay make over 3000 GBPs, highest price ive ever seen for a vase, :-X, must be a bit of a world record surely, it was a nice piece but two collectors must have thought it was really really nice, lucky seller, be interesting to see if more in that decoration appears on ebay now ;D
-
Am I missing something here? Is the silver mica with the stripes a rarity? I did bid early on, but never expected it to reach this price.

lol am thinking a bidding war that got way out of hand :o ::)
-
or some shilling... look at the bidding history! The last sensible bid was £330, then one of the two who took over must have put a silly amount on the day before it finished, the other bidder had to keep upping and upping.
-
The underbidder is almost certainly a dealer with 20,000+ feedback
-
A nice early piece, though there is to much clear glass and not enough colour in it for my liking. Is it worth £3,100, the simple answer is yes, it is worth what someone is prepared to pay for it. Would I have paid that for it, definitely not.

yip something is only worth what someone is willing to pay for it, but was it worth it in my eyes ? only if I was a billionaire , record price for a monart vase? must be pretty close,
-
I know who the 20,000+ bidder is - he is a major collector in the USA. But even I am surprised he bid that high. But I must admit some of the bidding !!!!! no further comment.
It is a really nice piece especially with all the silver mica. I've tried, when I can afford it, to specialise in striped pieces and I've never seen a striped piece with the silver before. However, my memory is not as good as it once was - lol

There is an example of a striped piece with silver mica on Franks site Scotland Glass, it is shape Q, there was a vase shape AA on ebay last year with stripes and silver mica, that's the only two examples I can recall.

yes, I'd spotted shape Q on Ysartglass site. So it's rare - still not worth that sort of money. So what price would someone pay for say something like the Berluze vase????? Not that is rare!

al let you all into a secret the shape q on ysart site was bought by myself for much cheapness from an antique centre

Hello
Sorry to interupt the conversation, but is this the item you are talking about?

Yes, that is the item being discussed.
-
at the end of the day there were three happy folk ,firstly the seller, secondly the winning bidder (who must be chuffed to have bought such a lovely piece to add to their collection) and the thirdly myself who enjoyed watching the bidding in its last few minutes ,
-
Yes, Gary and I know who owns it now as well - shape Q that is!!!!!
-
I watched that as well :o no bids from me though as waaay out of my league. However, if that is what the vase looks like stood outside in the garden, then I'm sure it must look amazing when lit at night. It is a really beautiful vase, forgetting rarity etc. There are French 1920's/30's vases that are beautiful and sell for this kind of money. Monart competes with those on all terms in my opinion, so I can't see why £3,000 seems so expensive ? (but as I said, way out of my league unfortunately ;D )

The combed pieces with mica are fairly scarce, I thought, but not £3,000 scarce! My brother has some - I don't know how many though, but certainly a few.
-
This is an interesting thread! I picked up something very similar to the vase under discussion at an antique shop last week. If it is not worth £3000 what is it worth? I will get pictures up asap and see if anyone agrees with me that it is similar :)

having see your vase shape RA id say it would do well on ebay but cant see it making any more than in the hundreds
