Title: Formano sculptured piece for dating and comment
Post by: Bernard C on June 17, 2013, 05:07:31 PM
See four GlassGallery images here (http://glassgallery.yobunny.org.uk/displayimage.php?pos=-18906), each with click image to enlarge feature.   Apologies — I have chopped off the top inch or so of the solifleur vase from my photographs.   It is cut at 45° and polished.

Original Formano label.   Welded steel plate and glass.   Maximum width 19cm 7½", base d. 12.1cm 4¾", solifleur vase h. 25.5cm 10", total weight 725g 1lb 9½oz.

Other observations:
  • More exact inch measurements than you would expect, suggesting the possibility of British manufacture.
  • I always thought that the positioning of the label showed the retailer which way to display it.   Images 3 and 4 show the piece with the label at the front and back.   In this case that theory clearly doesn't work!!!
  • I found a website in German — http://www.formano.de   This includes product range sheets for the last four years, but my piece seems to predate these.

Is "Formano" an amalgam of "Formia" and "Murano"?

    Help.
