Title: Pate de verre quatrefoil bowl - ID help
Post by: heartofsklo on June 18, 2013, 12:30:21 AM
Pate de verre quatrefoil bowl with no visible makers marks. Green and purple colours and has a very waxy type feel and finish. The bowl measures 15cm across and 7cm high. Photo 3 is lit from above to show its tranparency and colours.
Hopefully some will know some info on the piece via its shape and colours.

Hiya -
I'm sure it is not pāte-de-verre but powdered, blown and satinated. Maybe this discussion will get you further

Thanks Ivo, my piece appears more like the lidded pot in post 5647 by flyingfree rather than the piece actually up for discussion in that thread.

I am sure my piece is pretty old, not modern (as in later than the 40's) and from a good maker but as always with a lot of glass, no makers monica!!

the shape of your bowl looks like a Daum shape (see link),however I'm sorry I don't know anything about Daum glass and was thinking that if it were Daum it would be signed in the making of it?  But I can't say that for sure.  Also I can't be sure it's the same shape but it does look so.
Also your bowl is slightly smaller than the one linked to, however again, I don't know anything about Daum so I'm not sure whether these were made in various sizes.  I have three Daum bowl two are similar sizes but not identical and the third is much larger. All are from the Daum Jades range but only the large one is signed.

Also try looking up Daum vitreous glass perhaps?  I think they did a matt uncased mottled glass that was called this.  You might be able to find a colours match maybe.
Sorry I can't be more helpful.

Lovely bowl and gorgeous colours :)

Thanks Flying Free. I too have found another Daum bowl of similar shape etc on the internet but as you say, no markings makes one immediately think otherwise (but never a certainty).

I will search out "Daum vitreous glass" and also I will try  a Daum specialist on the net and see if anything turns up.

Thanks again. Either way it makes it sound like sanitary ware  ;)

Have you taken your pictures with a flash?  matt mottled glass is particularly difficult to photograph without it looking blurry I know, but your last pic is very out of focus and it's quite difficult to see the colours on the bowl
Can you take a pic with it well lit showing the colours but with no flash?
Or were they taken without a flash?
Also does your glass look like my pot close up, with lots of tiny bubbles in it?

Here is a shot with light above, it does appear to have little bubbles within the glass. The colour looks orange when brightly lit but I will take another photo in daylight tomorrow that hopefully will show the green and purple.

Here is another daylight photo without flash, the muted colours added to the waxy finish make it difficult to get a great shot.  (The colours are pretty representative though).

Have found this one on the net that looks very similar to mine (obviously different colours)

The bowl deffinately has a waxed finish and the finish is consistant over the base also, unlike the powdered, blow, satinated ones appear.
