Posted this back in May last year and thought I'd mentioned but didn't, the picture on page 361 of 20th Century British Glass of a very similar piece attributed to Caithness,the height of mine is exactly the same as the one in the book so the label on the base probably shouldn't be there,has anyone handled a Caithness vase like this and do you think it's a Scot and not a Midlander? ::) ;D ;D
-
I suspect Sunderland glass. :)
-
Thanks for the reply,even with such a close similarity with the one in the book,or do you think Hajdamach may be wrong?
-
It does have a Royal Brierley label, (I've just looked at the enlarged second pic, doh! :-[ )
I have never seen a bit of Caithness like this, and I do see a lot of it around (being in Scotland helps).
There are a couple of mistakes I've found in the 20th century book. There's a bit of Mdina described as Isle of Wight Studio Glass - thankfully, in the cropped image on the front page it was part of the cropping!
And Ed Iglehart does not live in Cumbria, in England, but in Palnackie in Scotland.

You mean this thread. http://www.glassmessages.com/index.php/topic,47790.0.html
The "Caithness" one comes from the Graham Cooley collection, but he's not immune to errors either. The brown one certainly looks like Sunderland and the blue one looks closer to RB or Sunderland than Caithness.

;D The Mdina and Mdina-not-IoWSG are from Graham Cooley's collection too.
As to errors - one person cannot be an "expert" on everything!
You can basically either know a little about a lot of areas, or a lot about one little area. Or even a lot about one area and just a little about a lot of others, but one person simply cannot know everything about everything. ;D
I can't currently find my Caithness book to see if there's an illustration of any use there.

I had a look and couldn't see anything

Thanks both,I might stick to RB'y studio,it's easier,well sometimes ::) ;D ;D
