Title: Mike Weedon
Post by: Mike M on June 19, 2013, 02:22:15 PM
Forgive me if this is posted elsewhere, but I thought people should know the great Art Nouveau Glass dealer Mike Weedon sadly died last Friday after a longish battle with heart failure.

He was, a good friend, one of the true greats and taught me an awful lot about glass.

I, and a lot of other people, will miss him greatly.

Anyone wanting funeral details please email me.

cheers

Mike

My most sincere sympaties to his lovely wife.
I do know who he is, I spent a lovely afternoon in his shop with my brother once, but he doesn't know who I am, I wouldn't think. I spotted him at the fair last november.
Far too young to be leaving us, very sad indeed.

Mike and I were at Camden Lock on adjoining tables, that was just before I got into glass... I sold awful pottery, Cliff, Knight  and stuff (It was just starting to take off) and silver and gold jewellery. Mike had already started on his pewter stuff then. I moved on to Scottish Glass, Mike stuck with metal but went up market. He used to bring back Monart from the US on every trip, how he coped with his volumes of luggage and zero duty I will never know.

We lost touch over 20 years ago but I do remember him meeting his wife (was it Yvonne?) in the Passage and their wedding which I attended.

Yes he was far too young to have left us, makes me feel privileged to still be going!

A great guy!

Sadly I never knowingly met him, but frequently visited his website to drool over his fabulous Walsh lampshades.

I will miss his work.
