Title: Iridescent vase interesting mark

I would be very interested to know if anyone can make out the mark and signature (not shown in its entirety) on this 15cm tall vase? 

The main colours are amber, purple and green with a spider web design on the iridescent casing (again, excuse any semantic errors and correct me where you can!).

The signature appears to be "M X" or "Max" and the "M" has an underscore attached to the first upstroke.

There is an embossed mark (shown) that could be a very stylised Spartan helmet or a mound with a star - it is only 5x5mm and very hard to make out.

I hope this is of interest and not another annoying post by a newby!

My eyes are not good but I cannot see anything on the base photo?
Hartley Wood did similar but again not the best photo.

This is what I see at 6 o'clock in the bottom photo.  The M in the 3rd photo is also traced.  As I looked at the image blown up it could either be a stylised helmet or an eagle head?  Any other ideas?

the decor reminds me on franz austen glass, but i've never seen that signature.

It looks very much like that vase.  Same colours.  Who was Hartley Wood (quick search!).

A later piece only ones I can recall with anything on the base were the centenary pieces stamped 1892 to 1992.
Started out doing stained glass some of the early stuff is really cool streaky stuff with uneven rims and kicked out bases with rough pontil marks.
Based in Sunderland eventually around the late '90s ?
I have an album with some early stuff I will dig it out.
