1.5 inches high,has a registration mark for1903 by S.Riess &Co,can't find anything about them, ::) ;D ;D
-
According to Jenny Thompson's book The identification of English pressed glass, the registrant was as follows:
409057 - 27 April 1903 - A. Riess & Co, London, Importers of Foreign Glass & China
The entry on the Great Glass design number listing page just gives S. Riess & Co, which appears to be wrong, as elsewhere on Great Glass http://www.great-glass.co.uk/glass%20notes/manq-r.htm it says:
"Riess & Co, A
London, England (early 20th Century)
1 design registered in UK in 1903. Listed as 'Importers of Foreign Glass & China'"
According to the London Gazette, the company was dissolved and struck off the companies register on 19 February 1909:

Hi Keith - if you would like me to look at the Kew records some time, do let me know :)
Looks like someone has been having a busy day with acquistions ;D
-
Thanks Paul, that would be great, was hoping someone knew the 'crown' mark and yep had an interesting buying day despite the heat cancelled train and late buses, ::)serves me right for not passing the driving test! ;D ;D
-
Unfortunately, can't give you any other information about Riess Keith, but if you're interested here are some pix confirming that the correct initial is A. and not S.
Kew references are................Representations... BT 50/508 and the Register is BT 51/115.

Many thanks for looking Paul, hope it's not too hot down there, ;D ;D

Hi Keith. I spent the morning at Kew, and fortunately they have air conditioning which made it very comfortable -- especially since I took well over 300 pix :o
When it came to home time I walked out of the building into what seemed like a furnace - thank goodness for air conditioning in the car. :)

I have one of these and I have a Streit 2536 salt.
They are identical except for the stamp, which would suggest Reiss were importing Streit glass - or a blatant copy.
