Title: ruby glass vase?
Post by: bat20 on July 28, 2013, 03:45:36 PM
Hi all, found this today it has a very deep ruby colour ,18cm ht and about 8cm wd,i was thinking art deco, but further to recent chats about pontils, it defiantly has a Y shape gadget mark on the base maybe suggesting the last quarter of the 19 century,no ring, but seems like a very well made piece, another question would be is it English?i guess other countries were using gadgets..

I'm afraid no-one will identify this one as anything desirable, so there is this coy silence. Proper vases which have been properly designed, produced and finished would not have used gadgets which are basically there to speed up production never mind the quality. So here you have a simple shape, produced at high volume. Not the characteristic of a top piece. Personally I would set the origin of this piece in Romania in the 1990s - but I could be off of course.
