Title: Opaline Covered Cup
Post by: Ohio on July 31, 2013, 07:58:23 PM
Picked up a strange piece. 6" height, 2 1/2" diameter, Opaline. Compared it to a couple of PV opaline pieces I have & color seems to match. Unfortunately I cannot get a decent pic of the polished pontil of the bottom that is recessed exactly like a PV cologne I have. Ground botton ring surrounding pontil shows alot of wear. Would this be some type of hot chocolate cup? Thanks

PV is indeed one of the most likely makers of these. Timewise you're probably looking 1870s/ 80s.  Not sure what the handled cup was used for, but i have 2 matching pieces one of which is a footed vase height 14 the other a match stick holder height 9 cms.

Thanks Ivo that is appreciated...it may be older than I thought...I just figured in the very early 1900s when stuff like Chocolate pots were still around & used.
