Title: Is this a Scandi vase?
Post by: Mr. Turnip on August 05, 2013, 01:26:15 PM
And here's the third mystery vase from my collection. It's thick 'n heavy and 200mm high. The glass looks a bit like car windscreen glass in colour - very slightly greeny/blue tinge to it. The outside of the neck is round and inside of the neck is square. Pontil is shiny and well finished. I reckon it's Scandi 'cos of the Viking/Celtic like appearance - but I can't find anything like it in any books or on web.

Could it be Spanish recycled?  La Mediterranea or similar?

Oh gawd... I look at all this new glass that exists (never mind what's been made for the last 10-20 years) and wonder at how little I know. It's very heavy and thick - I suppose the slight green tinge could maybe indicate recycled glass? It came in a job lot from auction with a load of Whitefriars. Would recycled glass have a well finished and polished pontil? I'm not sure how recycled glass items are made. I try not to buy things I can't identify anymore!
