Title: Dartington Studio
Post by: Simba on August 10, 2013, 05:36:49 PM
I just bought a lovely vase at the Flea Market which is Dartington Studio glass with its original sticker and acid etched mark on the base. I see lots of old posts about Dartington studio and I just wondered if any further info had come to light recently as to the date and designer.

I've never seen this design in Dartington Studio before - do you have an image of the etched mark?
(otherwise, my guts are suspecting a possible shifting of a label...)
I "discovered" Dartington Studio glass in a sale in a local upmarket homewares shop, circa 2000, and thought it to be of high quality and a very good price (in the sale) so I bought some Alchemy - as did my brother, who also bought some of the pieces with the crackle design in white over colour. I started watching out for the new designs coming out, having tracked them down via the Stuart Factory shop in Crieff.
So I know of the Alchemy, the crackle, then there was stuff with gold foil, followed by the optic ribbed swirly stuff, and cranberry stuff coloured with gold then the Studio went bust.

This, if it is Dartington, is a new one on me!

When searching again last night I found Anne listed one very similar back in 2007...see link ....the post gives some info on it.

I have tried to photograph the etched mark but it is very small.

I could make it out, just! What exactly, does it say - Dartington, or Dartinton Studio?

(I could only make out the Dartington - and it looks about right. The help bring out a mark like this for photography, rub it lightly over with a bit of talcum powder - the powder will sit in the etched bit, making it much easier to photograph.
I think the thread you linked to is probably about as much as is known.

just thought I'd add this as a point of reference

I've had two now, both with the Dartington Studio label and both only acid etched Dartington to the base

cheers

ok, I've just checked my Dartington Studio pieces. They all have the double blow-pipe mark as well as Dartington etched on the base, although my charger has the double blow-pipe mark as a prunt pushed into the hot base over the pontil scar.
And sticky labels saying Dartington Studio.
