Title: Murano chandelier 1950?

I am looking for information about a Murano amber glass 5 branch chandelier. I think it's from the '50 but I am not sure. Does anyone has more information about this?
I would like to sell it but what is an estimated value for this type (preferably within in Europe). (it needs to be cleaned)

Hi,

There's not a lot of information in print on chandeliers from Murano, even from the best companies. Your best hope in terms of price is to find a similar piece for sale from a decent retailer of high end vintage chandeliers. Even then, the prices are often much higher compared to what you might get selling it yourself, on eBay, for example. Here's a link to one retailer:

I am not a fan of chandeliers but this one might change my mind. It is beautiful in its simplicity...

I was offered one by a friend with leaves and flowers - just what I don't like - and he wanted $500 (approx 350 pounds at the time) for it. Ended up swapping it for some cash and some glass.

Yours should be worth more than his...They sell new for a LOT of money...

Thanks for the tips and advice. I found similar lamps now on 1stdibs and other sites with prices in the range from 1800 - 3800 dollars. Not sure what that would do in Europe though.
Maybe I can find some antiques dealer who can determine if it is really from mid-century.

Kee - I would suggest that chandeliers and ebay do not mix.

I think it will be hard to pick the date as these are made for the italian market and for hotels etc [some exceptions of course]. They still make designs from the 50's to order and yours could be any time since the 50's but I suspect that it is a 70's piece, no knowledge just the look.

If you plan on keeping it just put it up and enjoy it. If you plan to sell it you will need some specialist advice on where to auction it. Like everything they will come back into general fashion someday.

Just a thought - my friend who sold his chandelier is gay, and the couple he sold it too are gay too. So maybe it is a thing that has some traction in that market, and they generally know quality and value when they see it.

Lovely chandelier.  Perhaps you could approach a local antiques shop and ask if they might be interested.
I 'd have thought it would be in demand/sell well in Holland which might help with the dismantling and packing etc. We bought quite a bit of our lighting in Holland and carried it home  ;D  - much better selection over there and it seems much more demand for unusual and beautiful lighting than here in the UK.
I think plain dark brown or even plain black inserts for the bulb holders would look better than the current ones.
