Small (diameter 12 cm) carnival glass bowl, purplish-red base glass, beautiful iridescence.
The pattern was not hard to ID, Dugan "Cherries" it is.
I was convinced that it is an old one till I found the info on Dave Doty's site that there are reproductions around: >> Link (http://www.ddoty.com/newcherries.html)
The iridescence in mine doesn't look shiny like many contemporary pieces, and I am uncertain if it is more likely to run into a reproduction than a period piece here in Vienna...
Any help highly appreciated as usual!

I think it might be a modern one, as the shape doesn't appear to be a Dugan one

It looks good to me - that is a genuine old Dugan piece in my opinion. The shape is the berry bowl, part of a berry set (one large master and six small bowls) - it would be approx. 5 inches across, deep and round (exactly like yours).
I do not believe it is a modern repro because firstly, the iridescence is totally wrong for a recent reproduction. Secondly, the base glass colour is typical Dugan - ox-blood or fiery amethyst - that is not a colour that you would find in a repro. But, the real clincher, the one that says "yes, this is a genuine old piece of Classic Dugan Carnival" is the base. It has no iridescence on it whatsoever. Typically, most modern repros will have iridescence on them. Look at this article we wrote for wwwcga website - we show the base of the Mosser Mary Ann vase alongside the original old version.

I believe that the Cherry repros were made by L.G. Wright, using the original old Dugan moulds (Wright bought a lot of old Dugan moulds - an experienced collector can easily spot the new versions).
You are also absolutely correct, Michael, that you are not likely to find a repro in Vienna. It is much more likely to be an old, original piece.
It's genuine. It's Dugan. It's beautiful - congratulations.

Thanks, Christine!
As far as I have understood these were reproduced in the old moulds by Wright glass ???
Ooh, just saw that Glen has replied while I was typing.
I was hoping for your expert opinion, thank you so much!
I couldn't find a piece from this pattern the same shape as my bowl online (apart from the repro piece), that is why I got a little confused.
Seems to be a more uncommonly found shape...
It sometimes amazes me what can be found at car boot sales in Vienna :)

Nice looking piece

Thanks, colink!
My third non-marigold carnival piece, so I am quite happy... (my Riihimäki pitcher looks marigold, but is amber actually).
And yes, Vienna is a good place to hunt for carnival glass ;) -- seems not to be collected much here.
But there isn't a lot available either, mostly Indiana glass from the 1970s.
