Title: ID Help with Art Deco Glass Perfume Decanter
Post by: wiggy131 on September 09, 2013, 08:42:20 PM
Hello, this style looks really recognizable, but I can't remember who! I have tried searching the style, but can't find anything. I think it is made from lead crystal, as it is very heavy.
Has an acid stamp to the base, hopefully someone will recognize the maker. I have pulled the contrast right up to make out the faded acid stamp. It is a circle, with a long word and a shorter one at the top.
I love it anyway!
Thank you for your help in advance!

What an interesting bit of glass you have there, I can not help with an ID but could it be a carafe and how tall is it?

You may be able to bring out a little more detail in the acid stamp if you photograph it with a dark background and try various different angles (sorry if you have already tried this). I wondered if the long word in the acid stamp was Czechoslovakia.

John

I think it might be Cristallerie St Louis.  Their acid mark is notoriously bad to read.

I found a cut vase in a similar style searching Cristallerie St Louis Art Deco
here - worth searching for perhaps.

Hello John & Flying Free, Thank you for your replies. I think Flying Free is right! I had a look at the mark again and it does say I'm sure Cristallerie St Louis. I did a bit more research on them and I was wondering if it might be designed by Jean Sala and Jean Luce? Anyway, I have e-mailed a picture to the St Louis Crystal Museum, so I will let you know how I get on!
Thank you once again for your time in helping me.
Best Wishes
Vickie

This lamp is marked on the base Saint-Louis and Jean Sala.
It is a similar cut design but I'm afraid I don't know about how long they used designs for and whether or not if it were designed by Jean Sala it would be marked.

Until the 1950s, the Saint-Louis products were not systematically acid-marked, so it could be a piece that was made later.

Jean Sala was head of designs from 1933-1939.
