Title: Whitefriars bowls?
Post by: Joscyn on September 15, 2013, 08:23:36 AM
I find differentiating Whitefriars from Liskeard and others very difficult - could anyone let me know if these are Whitefriars, Murano or what?!
Knobbly has a ground base and slightly deeper ground pontil scar that I have tried to show.
Thanks from a beginner.

Hi Ian, the one one the left definitely not Whitefriars maybe Czech ?
The one one the right cannot really tell from the photo but looks not to me the sides look a little high for the 9099 though they were other styles of bubble bowl, is the base polished flat with a neat polished depression were the pontil scar would be ?

Thank you again, Chris, the one on the right has a completely flat polished base with no visible depression.

I agree with Chris.  You see many a knobbly bowl such as this with the depressions in the rim and I was told they are Czech.  The other bowl does not look quite right for the Whitefriars 9099....

I think the yellow bowl could well be Czech and if so is probably from this pattern: https://picasaweb.google.com/Johnmj100/CzechGlass#5474504115175188946
