Title: Helping IDing Murano Glass Bird/Seal
Post by: bitofbutter on September 16, 2013, 04:03:54 PM
Hi Everyone,

I tried posting this yesterday, but I think the board must have eaten my post.  (If this is a duplicate post, I apologize!)  I'm a longtime lurker on this board.  Yesterday I stumbled upon a collection of birds at a rummage sale (mostly ceramic), including this glass bird, which I'm having a hard time IDing.  The bird is 7 inches long and 5 inches tall.  It's clearly well-made and has no signature or numbers on the base.

A few friends have suggested that it's not a bird at all, but really a seal.

Here's a link to my flickr set with photos of the bird: http://www.flickr.com/photos/52168366@N07/sets/72157635551542812/

Thanks ever so much for your help!

Gee  --- looks like a Bird.......looks a Seal too.  I think maybe a seal ?? In my own opinion (IMOO)

Glad to hear you've been a longtime lurker....we like lunkers ;D  I am not sure, but it may just be generic Art glass ??  See what others say........and WELCOME

Hi, and welcome to the board bitofbutter.
This has all the look of Fare Marcolin Konstglas  to me.
I will do some searching for you and see if I can come up with a definitive for you.
A Bird I think as I have a Marcolin Seal and it is a little different.
Very nice though whatever it is, and I will enjoy finding out as this is right up my street.
Rosie. :)

Hi bitofbutter,  well good news,  my friend Ingela Nyrén has verified that it is a seal and is FM Konstglas,  so you have found a little treasure of glass.
If there is no inscription on it,  then it would have had a round-cornered triangular label saying it is FM Konstglas.
Nice find,  well done. :)

Would you mind posting the pictures directly here please? This is so that in the future others can benefit from the identification should they have a similar question, as Flicker pictures don't always remain permanently.  It is something we ask all contributors to do.

Thanks so much Rosie!  I tried to post the photos here but every image seemed to be too large for the posting regulations.  Lemme see if I can't get around it.  :-)

Seriously everyone, thank you SO MUCH for the help.

Hello Rose!  It was Ingela that confirmed it was a seal and was FM Konstglas,  mine was just instinct,  hers is sound knowledge.

Just a little hijack here Rose....I have found and bought 2 more Shirley Elford Angels!!  Wow!!

Sorry bitofbutter,  Rose was the one who helped me a couple of years ago to identify an angel I had bought,  so you see,  she knows her stuff,  but is very modest with it. :)

If you still continue to have uploading problems,  there is  information at the beginning of the Home page with lots of help on how to downsize the pictures,  or one of the Moderators will come to your rescue.

Rosie speaks the truth of your little Birdie....I guess it is not a seal then.  I was kinda stumped too.

If you need help for photos.....just ask, will try to help too.

Now your Birdie HAS an ID... ;)

* RosiePosie (send me pics of your new angels) or post here.  Thanks, Glad to hear!!

It is a Seal Rose, not a bird.

Hope that is clear, bitofbutter.
