Finally got hold of one of these lovely spiky Roubickova vases, shown at the Triennale Milano 1960.
Featured widely in CGR in the early 1960s, and also included in the Raban book >> Link (https://picasaweb.google.com/104509467784289017506/ModernBohemianGlassArtia1963?authkey=Gv1sRgCIfKjerM-NrVDA&noredirect=1#5580922111425137794).
To me quite an important addition to my Czech glass collection :)
And not that easy to find...

Ooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo fantastic piece, Michael! And just went I thought your Czech glass collection couldn't possibly get any better.
How I would love to run my hands over it (over and over and over again).
How tall is it, please?
-
Thank you Anik and Norman :D
Out of sheer excitement I forgot the dimensions, sorry; it is 29 cm tall.

Lovely piece Michael. Museum quality is always nice to see and is rare to find. This must be one of the top twenty most recognisable/important pieces of postwar Czech glass art.

Another wow-piece - well done! :D
I wonder - is it really mouth-blown? Is it possible to achieve such a sharp-edged / defined surface with
diamond pattern just with your lung? ???
-
Thank you Robert and Dirk! :)
It is mould blown (there are 4 seams visible towards the base), and then the rim section hot-worked.
Don't really know if "mouth-blown" is right or not... Wouldn't that apply to any glass which is not pressed?

No, there is machine blown (think bottle factory). Shapes that are narrower at the top than the bottom (without hand modification) cannot be pressed because pressing requires a plunger and you could not get it out. It might be possible that this was machine blown and then hand finished

Thatīs what I thought about this piece. Thanks, Christine. :) :-*

One more! :D
Thanks for looking,

Took me more than a few years to find a third one ;)

You aren't half running up a fabulous collection from the Roubiek/Roubickova partnership.
;D
Do you have the book that was produced by the Studio Glass Gallery in London in '99?
I highly recommend it. I am lucky enough to own a copy.

Hi Sue, no I don't have the book. Hope to find it one day...
Until then I will try to buy more of their glass :)
Michael

I suspect the book is all I will ever have of their major opus. :'(
I'm afraid I can't like the little white bubbly vases with the coloured ties around their necks. I've tried. ;)
-
Me neither ;D
Though I have to admit that I couldn't resist to buy one of them when I found it for 1 Euro at a carboot.

;D Will I let you know if I decide to sell my book? I am starting to think your need for it might be greater than mine, but I'm not ready to let it go, just yet. ;D
-
That is very kind of you, Sue ;)
But I am sure you appreciate the work of the Roubicek/Roubickova couple much more than I ever could, so the book must stay with you.
