Title: Pearly swirl unknown paperweight
Post by: Anne E.B. on September 22, 2013, 04:11:00 PM
Any ideas who made this paperweight please?  It has central core of clear glass then white/blue and red with a pearlescent finish. Flat polished base.  I thought it might be Gozo as they did some with a pearly swirl pattern, but their's are a little more restrained than this one.  I'm not particularly fond of it :-X but would like to know its origins.  Just wondering if it could be one of those new ones sold in Charity shops, although it does have some age related wear on the base.
Many thanks :)

Very Isle of Wight or Gozo in style.

Pretty sure that is Isle of Wight Studio Glass, it would be Woodland, colour Silver Birch, described in Mark Hill's book as "green and pinky purple". Produced for only a short time - 1995/96.

The colours in the second photo look better: http://iowstudioglass.wikidot.com/woodland

Very similar technique was/is still used at Gozo: http://www.feathersonline.co.uk/GozoGlassStone.html
