Hi, this is my mums paperweight and she was wondering if she could get a bit more info on it? She recons it is from the 70's, it was amongst a number of Caithness paperweights which we have all identified and have the names for except this one, I had a look in Colin Terris's book but couldn't find it which makes me think it isn't Caithness?
There are no markings on the base, these are the best pictures I have unfortunately but maybe somebody might recognise the design?
Thanks
David

Hi David,
Your mum was correct with the date of "70s". It is a "Fountain" design weight from the Paul Ysart studios, at Harland near Wick, Scotland and was made between 1971 and 1979. From the shape of yours I suspect it is from the later years (1976 to 1979).
The Fountain design was one which was a regular production item but it is rare to find any two exactly the same. Some were marked with an "H" cane either in the design of under the base. Some had a label attached to the base. Some were unmarked.
A few were scratch signed "P. Ysart" but probably most were made by Paul's assistants, under his supervision.

Thanks very much Kevin, I will forward that over to her, she has been wondering about it's origin for a while now so that will put her mind at ease.
Thanks again
