Title: Antique? Modern?
Post by: BobKegeles on October 02, 2013, 10:57:18 PM
Hi all P-weight detectives.

Does this lovely little piece look antique?

Murano? Scottish? American? French?

Size about 2 1/2" across 1 3/4" high.

Scratch etched on bottom wad  or cuad or w4d ?

Thanks, and bless you.

Could that base marking be a VSL?  Val St Lambert, Belgium?  Not at all familiar with Belgian weights.

Standard Chinese scramble weight. Maybe from the 1930s?

Hi Kev / Bob

I agree about date - could well be from the 1930s.  These turn up regularly in charity shops, at car boot sales, and in mixed auction lots.

Regarding VSL, I have only ever seen a scratch marking of VSL (or Val St Lambert) on modern (post 1950) examples.
