Title: American Egermann From 1941
Post by: Ohio on October 24, 2013, 03:40:21 AM
I thought this may be of interest to European members. The West Virginia Museum of American Glass Quarterly magazine (most recent) shows two ads from March of 1941 by the Koscherak Bros. showing Egermann glass being made in the U.S. using U.S. company (many are Paden City) blanks that reproduces the same ruby staining & wheel cutting design found on European Egermann. Undoubtedly the war played a major role in the Koscherak(s) inability to import European Egermann. It is not yet known which U.S. company did the work for the Koscheraks as all the ads state is “Made in America By Koscherak – Reproducing An Antique Design Much Prized In Period Interiors.”

Thank you.
Is Paden City a glassmaker and would they have been decorated there as well?
Reading between the lines, is it possible some were from another manufacturer in the States also?

M...Paden City was in West Virginia & a manufacturer from 1916-1951 & they did cuttings, etches, etc. As of now it is not known who actually did the manufacturing process because several companies had their blanks used & the problem is the job would have been under subcontract & companies rarely kept track of their subcontract jobs so we may never know. If I were a betting man I would pick Westmoreland because they did the same style of "Bohemian" cuttings as Egermann & the cut more than most operations.
