Title: Finnish Paperweight
Post by: Nick77 on November 14, 2013, 12:05:07 PM
This arrived in a mixed lot of paperweights, I hadn't recognised it from the auction photo and I'm sorry to say I had never heard of the maker or designer. At first I thought it was an abstract design of different coloured blobs then realised it's the face of a bear.

Its by the Finnish maker Nuutajarvi Notsjo and is signed on the base by the designer Tiina Nordstrom, apparently the firm merged with Iittala in 1988 and it's glassware is now marketed under that name.

Thought I'd post for any others who may not have come across this maker/designer.

According to the book ice and fire, she was only at nuutajarvi from 1988 to 1990.
A scarce item perhaps?

Thanks Essi, I don't have that book, could be quite scarce then as you say especially if it is correct that in 1988 they started to use the Iittala name.
