First a grumble :) No problems posting photos on any other message boards or social network site from my phone or tablet except this one ? ???
A big gut feeling this is W/f it weighs in at almost 3 kg nice neat polished pontil mark plenty of base ware.

If nothing else, you are obviously vastly superior to me at operating a mobile 'phone. :)

Hi Chris,
I'm not sure about this one. Brian Slingsby refers to the 9694 doorstop that is in the 1969 catalogue which indeed is 4 3/4 " in diameter. That was made with a blue spiral and an internal large bubble. He also mentions a small number with a green spiral, but nothing about a brown colour with an internal bubble. Then again this whispy colouring does look a lot like some of the "streaky" pieces. It could be an unusual "one-off".
If not WF then someone was copying their idea !!

I've seen this piece in the flesh. It's a great piece of glass, the small bubble pattern, large internal bubble, streaks in the glass had me thinking Whitefriars.
Paperweights not my thing but I think you've found a one off!

Hi Chris and Tony
Here is my example - the spiral is effectively black although holding it to the light there is the smallest hint of green. The spiral surrounds the large elongated bubble. The base is VERY like the one Chris has a very deeply ground pontil with a wide collar. Mine is 4 3/4" diameter by 3 3/4" tall and weighs in at 6 lbs (approx 2.7 kg).
Best regards

Pretty sure now it is right Tony. Thanks Derek checked it again 4.75" across 4" high and weighs 2.8kg. Nige you have a good eye :)

Hi Derek,
I reckon that your example is almost certainly one of the rare "green" spiral versions with an overly dense green inclusion. I have a couple of "green" grounds that are virtually black except in the very brightest light.
Chris's example does seem to be a one off. The streaky range of glass items didn't appear at Whitefriars until after this doorstop ceased production. It may well be a "crossover" item where the colours or techniques of an incoming range end up on an older design as either they were deliberately experimenting, or someone just fancied trying it out in their lunchbreak.
Quite jealous of you both.
Cheers,
Tony

Tony, it's yours mate, I bought it with you in mind, always been happy to see my pieces go to 'true' collectors. Julian made a suggestion on another site the streaky brown used for the knobblies which I think is correct maybe a bit left in the pot?

Hi Tony
Are you coming to the PCC Christmas meeting at Knowle on Dec 7th.
If so, I will bring it with me for you to cast your expert eye over it and get even more jealous !
Best regards

Hi Derek,
Yes, I'll be there, you tease!!! Should I bring some pre-1947 silver coinage to tickle one of your old hobbies ?? Just joking.
Regards,
Tony

Hi Alan
You will need to reinforce the floor first - it might end up in the cellar !
