Title: Frosted glass novelty ‘elephant’ inkwell – any info, please?
Post by: agincourt17 on November 17, 2013, 04:20:35 PM
A moulded frosted glass inkwell in the form of an Indian elephant in ceremonial dress with a howdah. The domed lid (sadly, repaired) is hinged to the body with a brass hinge. Stands approximately  3¾ inches high x 4 inches long.

(Permission for the re-use of these images on the GMB granted by Gordon Clark).

Presumably Victorian or early 20th century.

Does anyone have any information as the manufacturer, or can narrow the date of manufacture, please?

Fred.

Fred,
This was a subject of discussion on the GMB around 2005 and photo's are in a gallery.  If you can't find it I will try to.

Thank you, Margaret.

I've found Gill's photos of the elephant inkwell in the glass gallery.

I can't, however, find the GMB discussion by using the search facility - I've tried every combination of elephant, inkwell, frosted, Gill, pressed, Indian etc that I can think of and still drawn a blank.
