Title: Selkirk Weight id
Post by: jessculter on November 20, 2013, 10:46:14 PM
Hi Folks,

I've searched for more info about this weight, label on base states Selkirk but I haven't seen anything like it.

I'm not familiar with Selkirk weights.

Is it a rare weight or ltd?

Thanks for your help.

James

The basic design looks like the "Millefiori Emblem" series:
1979 Thistle
1980 English Rose
1981 Daffodil
1982 Shamrock
They were limited editions with 500 edition size.

I would appreciate to see a closeup of the central cane of your weight - looks like the thistle to me ... however:
- Your weight seems to be about 2.5" diameter / the series weights should be about 3".
- Base of your weight is green / catalog image for Thistle is blue (white for English Rose, red for Daffodil, am still looking for an image of the Shamrock): don't know if there was only a single colour per plant.
- Thistle cane looks different to catalogue image - but, again, several canes may have been used, just all with a thistle in the centre.
- Being LE I would expect the weight to be signed with studio name and number.

Possibly an unlimited miniature (2.5") version was produced at a later stage ... which doesn't show up in the sales brochures, though. So I would appreciate to receive a few more shots (especially the central cane) in high resolution (you find my mail address here (http://www.scotlandsglass.co.uk/cms/index.php?option=com_contact&task=view&contact_id=2&Itemid=3)) for ScotlandsGlass (http://www.scotlandsglass.co.uk/).
