Title: Floris Meydam "Serica"(?) ashtray
Post by: rocco on November 30, 2013, 07:55:30 PM
Lovely Floris Meydam for Leerdam ashtray, appr. 15 cm wide. I was looking out for one of these striped pieces, so I am quite happy to have found this one :)

One question: according to >> Botterweg (http://www.botterweg.com/Meydam_Floris/Leerdam/Lot-9589.aspx?tabid=59&lotid=9589&language=en-US&auctionid=26) this is a "Serica" piece (no. 5).
Here is another one, signed as well: >> Link (https://www.bukowskismarket.com/en/412210-vas-glas-floris-meydam-leerdam-unica-signerad)
Most of Meydam's striped pieces seem to be signed (= Unica pieces).
So is the difference in the numbers produced from each pattern? Or was it just more or less arbitrary which one was marked Unica, and which not?

Thanks,
Michael

Nice one !

The piece is indeed a serica and was never really marketed as ashtray.

Marking them with a number (like the 5-346 in your link) and / or Leerdam Unica was purely done to give them extra appeal. As "real" unica they would have the standard combination of a yearletter and number.
