Title: Identifying a vase
Post by: milero on December 09, 2013, 11:44:24 PM
Hello!

I have bought this vase at the local flea market and I would be happy if you could help me identify it. Thank you in advance!

PS: I chose this one instead of a Jean Beck  (first to the left - http://www.jeanbeck.de/images/entwuerfe+objekte/schwandorf2/Nr1---Abzug07.JPG)

Hi milero, welcome to the Board.

The colour (and size) of your vase reminds me of one I used to have - except that mine had an opalescent finish to the top of the neck.

Please see http://www.glassmessages.com/index.php/topic,17351.msg100234.html#msg100234
The photos linked to in that thread can be enlarged by clicking on the image.

So maybe Russian.

Hi Milero... welcome to the GMB.

My feeling is that your vase is Polish, by Zbigniew Horbowy c.1980s from Huta Barbara.  The shape, color, bubbles and finish is very much like his work.

I had a funny, instant "Zbigniew Horbowy" feeling when I saw this, but didn't dare comment.
I was unsure about bubbles - but the colours and shape were whispering to me. ;D

Thank you very very much! I am very happy to see your replies!

Do you have any idea how i could confirm the vase is made by Zbigniew Horbowy?
Huta Barbara's website seems closed...

I think i found it: http://allegro.pl/5-polski-design-szklany-wazon-horbowy-1960-70-i3782669665.html

It says it is from the 60/70s but in a different color.

Hi Milero,

Though the seller says it's 60s/70s, I'm more inclined to say it's from the 70s or early 80s. Horbowy created his "Antico' range (bubbly soda glass) in the mid 1960s at Huta Sudety, but started experimenting with color and opalescence in the 70s and 80s at the then newly formed Huta Barbara.

It's a really nice piece.

I agree, it is gorgeous.

To me, he's one of those artists whose work stands out from any crowd, it calls out to me. 8)

Obviously, it did to you too, Milero! ;D

:-[ I forgot to say, welcome.  :) I was distracted by your glass, though. ;)
