Title: Identification of unusal piece of glass
Post by: grit on December 20, 2013, 09:33:34 AM
My late father collected and dealt in antiques for many years and we are at last disposing of items we do not wish to keep. The photograph is of a solid glass item approx. 150mm in height with a diameter at the cast glass base of approx. 35mm.
It looks like a thing of purpose rather than decoration.
Any help would be appreciated.

Welcome to the GMB - so let the speculation begin!  Guessing it has a flat bottom - so possibly for glueing on an intaglio seal or signet, to seal your letters with wax. I have one in agate and bronze.

Stupid guess here (as I used to work in pubs etc when I was a lot younger) a beer pump handle?

A pull for a light switch on a string?
Or for flushing the loo?

It looks like a handle of some sort.
