Title: can anyone id this vase, i think it's Victorian maybe Georgian?
Post by: brucebanner on December 21, 2013, 05:20:01 PM
Hello there this vase i think is mould blown or maybe hand blown i'm not sure, it has a polished pontil and heavy wear to the  base with sharp cuts around the middle,  i have seen another identical in shape that's why i think it's mass produced, it has a very 1840's look about it, it's 10 inches in height 6 1/2 inches across the rim and 5 inches across the base. regards Chris.

It's mould blown by hand and in reality most glass except perhaps some studio glass was/is mass produced, particularly glass with a purpose, just not necessarily in huge numbers. It looks like a celery vase - so Victorian

Celery vases have, apparently, been known since the late C18, but I'd agree with Christine that this one is definitely Victorian.   Nice piece. :)
