Title: Acid etched face on crystal vase
Post by: Prism on January 13, 2014, 12:45:42 AM
Hi - I have this vase of very heavy clear crystal with a face with either a scottish or french hat.  The impressed mark on the base is very hard to read, but it has 1758 scratched there also.  I feel it is probably a one of a set of something.  The dimensions are approx 105 across top, 105 height.  It has nine panels with the face across two. Could anyone help with any information about it? Thanks.

From the picture the face looks like Monty, Lord Montgomery  ww2 same cheeks chin and hat even with the indent mid chin.

Think itīs Richard Wagner. There was a whole range of musicians on glasses produced for Berlin design.
Iīve seen them attributed to Peill & Putzler, but can neither confirm nor deny. :-/

Thankyou, I will look into it.
In the meantime I have found another picture online of another face - same design. Just the photo - no information. Perhaps someone can link the two faces? Thanks for looking.

This is my  John F. Kennedy vase  (http://www.pressglas-pavillon.de/vasen/07935.html) which is faintly marked (scroll down) with crown and bear like yours and like printed on the box in Dirk's ebay link.

My opinion from feel and touch: 1970ies and probably Libbey, USA for the German market - just an idea  :)

edited to add: Welcome to GMB!

That ring of wear looks a tad strong for 70s , my eyes aint too good at the moment but the lower section and base does look a little like the two i had ,  damn cateracts and maculer degeneration  plus long waiting list . where i live .

Contacted Berlin-Design by phone, but company sold about 7 years ago and unfortunately neither former member of staff nor any files from 1970s available.
