Can anyone help in dating and naming the maker of this vase. I think that it is Monart thank you Alan ???.

Hi Alan, very nice item. Your globe vase was produced by Isle of Wight Studio Glass and has the flame pontil mark to the base. I think this looks like one of the Aurene range pieces and would date to around mid to late 70s approximately.  :)

Yes, again you are spot on Greg. A nice example of a very collectable early range from Isle of Wight Studio Glass, designed by Michael Harris. "Aurene".

Thank you for the information. I would never have thought that it would have been by Harris. I thought the mark on the pontil looked like a jumping Salmon

It's supposed to be a blob of hot glass in a flame.
It is actually quite different to the Strathearn "Leaping Salmon".
There are examples of both on Frank's site, but I can't track them down...  :-[
There's a nice image of one here. You'll need to scroll down a little to the correct image, (the 4th one) then click to enlarge it.

This is the blue Aurene colourway as opposed to the gold - the blue starts from the top.  Personally, I think this was the more successful of the two - really beautiful

I have tried to work out what makes the difference between blue and gold Aurene, thinking as you do, Martyn, that it depends on which colour is on top, but the answer I got from the IoWSG forum while it was still going, was that it simply depends on how MUCH there is of each colour.

It doesn't make sense to me, I preferred the "which colour is on top" way.

That works better for me too - I think it is a very difficult call otherwise.  I have a dish with equal amounts of colour, in amount and depth, but the blue is on top and therefore Blue Aurene has always seemed the right call.  Many thanks though.  I wonder if the IOWSG forum will re-open ?

I would very much doubt it.
IoWSG has closed, but was bought by Michael's brother. He and Tim are currently working on setting up Tim's new studio.

Thanks Sue - I had heard that Tim was hoping to re-start glass-making at a new studio but I think they have hit some delays.
Would be good to see some new designs of his though.

It may be a "seal" in terms of it being a mark impressed into the base, Frank, but the logo for IoWSG is that of a blob of hot glass in a flame.
Not a beautiful furry sea mammal with doe eyes! :)
