Title: "cheap" fish
Post by: BobKegeles on January 31, 2014, 09:56:51 PM
Okay, these suckers are in constant supply, and are a dime a dozen.

I assume they are mid century Chinese.

One has a tallish brightly colored "solid" interior with the fish swimming around, the other has a flattish more diffuse base interior with the fish above.

Were there ever any Murano pieces that these Chinese pieces were based on?

I thunk they are 21st Chinese. There are Murano fish weights (https://www.google.co.uk/search?q=cenedese+aquarium&espv=210&es_sm=93&tbm=isch&tbo=u&source=univ&sa=X&ei=jVDtUsmCFoeP7Aa2woFw&ved=0CC8QsAQ&biw=1366&bih=681) but they are nothing like these

I don't know how they got themselves to the States, but their entry into the UK has been mostly through the charity shops run by the British Heart Foundation as "new goods".
