Title: Daum Signature
Post by: rbhasin on February 13, 2014, 11:45:14 AM
Did Daum ever sign without "Daum Nancy" and the lorraine cross?

Come across a couple of acid etched vases with a Daum sign, that too acid etched.

The later pieces can be signed Daum    or Daum France , Also there are several different older maks in keeping with the style of the item .

These are some pictures of the vases. Besides the daum, there is no other identification mark on either vase.

It is really baffling that of the hundreds of pictures online, there is none that supports the signature or the style of the vase.

What makes me think there is a problem is that I have come across the 2 vases at 2 different dealers who don't know each other and both have bought it from someone migrating overseas.

Hmm. The signature is part of the overall cameo work and as such is not really "acid etched" in its own right. I suspect both items may be modern "reproductions".

They do not look right, the colours look far too bright to me. They also remind me of all those Galle repros that are often seen.
