Title: Whitefriars(?) dish, useless as an ashtray
Post by: Simone on May 17, 2006, 06:39:14 PM
I got this in the post yesterday. It's useless as an astray, because it's a tad too deep.

Is it Whitefriars?  And can someone tell me how the canes have little babies, as you'll see at 9 o'clock on the first picture, where it's snuggling up to it's mother, in the circle of purple canes.

Definitely looks lke a Whitefriars. How deep is it if its too deep to be an ashtray?  The ashtrays are usually about an inch high and about 5 inches diameter which makes them fairly practical as ashtrays.  See example

It is not uncommon for the settings to include these little canes, which are used to filll tiny gaps in the settings which may cause the canes to otherwise slip
