Title: Aubergine beak vase
Post by: firebird on March 06, 2014, 01:57:27 PM
Can anybody help me identify this vase bought at an antique fair. It is aubergine in colour and stands 35cm tall (13.7ins) with polished out pontil mark. It was sold as Whitefriars but I don't think it is. It looks more Scandinavian or possibly Czech to me. Any help greatly appreciated.

I think the way the beak has been finished is very similar to my Whitefriars example here. This ruby one is quite early ,I think (but I could be wrong). It has an old pattern label to the base and I think they were designed by Boffo.  I'm sure a Whitefriars expert will be along soon to give their opinion I hope  :D

Many thanks for taking the time to look at my vase. I think the neck on mine is longer and thinner, more like an example I have seen on Kastrup's website.

Yes , I can see .... It's the beak bit that looks good to me  ;) This example of mine has a longer/thinner beak and is more  symmetrical than others I have seen .
