Title: Alsace-Lorraine?
Post by: marc on March 10, 2014, 01:22:17 PM
Hi everyone,

In Peter von Brackel's book entitled "Paperweights" says paperweight in which the motif is a palm branch comes from Alsace-Lorraine.
It has a polished base,  and it is enough worn.
Could it be an example? 1900-1925??

Thanks.
Marc.

Hi Marc.  I think the stylised palm frond was used by various makers in Northern Europe, so might be from Belgium as well as Alsace-Lorraine.  I think the date could be anywhere from approximately 1880 to 1920 - and possibly later.  I have seen some fairly similar pieces in Brussels flea markets that looked very modern to me!
