Hello all, my first post. I spend a lot of time in charity shops looking for bits of old glass. I don't know what I am looking at, I just buy the bits that look different. This cost me 99p and I bought it because I wanted to know what it is. Having showed it it a friend of mine he suggested it could be mid 19th century French, but was not certain. I hope somebody has seen one of these before? I have searched the internet high and low but can't find a match, any pointers are gratefully received. It is certainly moulded and is actually a bit wonky, and damn heavy. Thanks for looking.

It looks more like a jar which would have had a lid, than a tumbler, but sorry, I haven't a clue what it is.
It does appear to have some age. :)
I'm sure somebody else will be more helpful than I can be - but just let me say; welcome to the gmb! :)

Hearing France I remembered Baccarat and some glasses that I have ^^^ (http://www.glassmessages.com/index.php/topic,54215.msg307553.html#msg307553)
and I remembered your piece.
I have looked here^^^ (http://www.glas-musterbuch.de/Baccarat-1916-br-Garnitures-de.54+B6YmFja1BJRD01NCZwcm9kdWN0SUQ9MjE0NSZkZXRhaWw9.0.html)
and I found this
I think the 847 might be .........
You can keep looking in other catalogs
welcome

Many thanks for the welcomes, and yes 847 does look very similar. The chap who looked at it did say it looked a bit Baccarat. As a piece of glass it has had some serious use, nicks an chips all over and the base seems very worn. There is some wear to the top lip, I don't know how much would be due to the now missing lid or it being stood upside down to drain it after washing. Thanks for thoughts, I will investigate the catalogues.
