-
got it Lanmara glass but still need the stopper out :'(
-
i had a piece that had a stopped up stopper. I tried a number of things nothing worked. I left it on the shelf. one day when i went to check on something (I was still working on id'ing it) months later.. the stopper just popped out. Different time of the year and different humidity or something. Keep trying every month. LOL
-
thanks for looking and the info might try it in the window.
-
just looking at this bottle can anyone tell me how the red was added. could it be it was yellow glass then reheated on a flame similar to amberina glass.
-
No, its applied colour not reheating.
-
Worth contacting them and learning more. http://www.craftsman.me.uk/company-lanmara-glass-studio-in-wick-81940
I would also like images for Scotland's Glass please. Not even listed this Wick maker
-
Sounds crazy but I have released 4 stuck stoppers by soaking overnight with wd 40 sitting in the rim then warming in hot water in the morning.
-
no problem frank hope they are good enough photo's. will try WD40 thanks for the info.
thought they were closed down by what i have read
-
Closing makes sense as I should have found them for the 2010 directory if they still existed.
I will ask around and find who it was at lanmara. Are the initial JB?
-
I had looked for them some time ago and found
http://www.caithness.org/fpb/february2002/princesyouthbusinessterust/index.htm (http://www.caithness.org/fpb/february2002/princesyouthbusinessterust/index.htm)
giving two names (Katherine Dearness & Paul Brown) and mentioning an exhibition in 2002.
-
Thanks Wolf, saved that data into my to do folder which already had a lanmara folder, this included their website as it was in 2006.
Lanmara
Glass Studio was established in 1994 by glass artists Paul Brown and
Katherine Dearness. Situated in the 'Craft Village' at John O'Groats,
the studio produces beautiful hand blown glassware in stunning
iridescent colours. Each piece of Lanmara Glass is individually made,
using traditional glass blowing methods which have changed little in
2000 years. No moulds are used in the glass making process, and as each
piece is produced freehand, no two items are ever the same, making every
piece unique. Many of our designs are inspired by the dramatic Caithness
landscape or by myths and legends of the 'Far North'.
plus pages on each of them. Pics are very small though.

If you have not managed to get the stopper out may I suggest the following. Get WD40, eucalyptus oil or tea tree oil and put it round the stopper. The stand the perfume in the fridge until it gets cold. Then transfer it to the freezer fro a half hour or so. This should have two effects (1) the solvent should be sucked into the bottle by the artificial vacuum. (2) the solvent should by capillary action be spread somewhat. I would try gently moving the stopper several times and hopefully it will release. Be very careful to change temperature SLOWLY (hot water is very risky) because large temperature gradients can set up enormous internal stress and if the glass has not been properly annealed it will crack.

yes JB , think the owner was paul brown worked for okra glass before that
-
I don't think I'd do anything with glass involving freezers and fridges.. eek!
I checked my piece that I mentioned earlier in this thread. the stopper is stuck again! I expect come summer it will be fine again.
