Title: Harlequin paperweight by?
Post by: Nick77 on March 16, 2014, 12:48:35 PM
Hi All

Struggling with this recent acquisition, my thoughts are possibly by Peter Holmes? Although the yellow under side I have had in a Paul Ysart Harland era weight, it has no signature canes I can find.
Can anyone confirm the maker?

Many thanks
Nick

Most likely 1970s Paul Ysart studio, and made by Paul or one of his assistants.

Thanks Kev,

Were some made without H canes then?

Yes Nick, really isn't unusual to find one without an H cane, and the give away is the flat base.  Look at a PH one and it will be completely different.  Think I have both and will put a pic up at some point.

Hi Ian,

Thanks for the reply I would be interested s to see the PH weight as I haven't seen too many of his.

My first thought was Paul Ysart due to the dusty yellow underside which I had seen before, but no H cane made me question it, I just dug out this image of a close pack with the same colour (bleow)

But that had an H cane in amongst the canes. I should have looked further though because it was amongst a group I bought in February 2013 and there was a harlequin with no H cane, although it was made up of multi colour twists and had a Highland paperweights label on the base. I'm thinking this one is from the same period at the end of Paul's career.

Thanks both

Nick
