Title: Mdina vase - which range
Post by: orangeglass on March 18, 2014, 09:41:06 PM
Hi,
Could any one tell me which range this pattern is and what date? I don't seem to be able to find one quite like it. It is also slightly oddly shaped - is this because they used two moulds which weren't quite a pair?

Thanks for any info,

roberta

Don't see much of this pattern, I remember seeing a few animals. No name that I know of, Sue may have a better idea.

A photo of the signature would be useful.

This is the signature cropped off the other photo - not sure if it will be clear enough though, If not will do another one tomorrow, Thanks

Another signature pic - not sure if it is any better though!
By the way, the vase is only about 8.5cm high.

Here is a previous thread that started with an owl in this pattern: http://www.glassmessages.com/index.php?topic=41320.0

I would guess from the style of signature (emphasis on guess...) that date could be late 70s into the 80s. All the items we see in this colour tend to be quite small.

Hi,
Yes its definitely the same pattern as the owls - I know I looked all over ebay and couldn't find any  - this was my very first piece of glass that I bought when I knew absolutely nothing - I just thought it looked interesting - beautiful but ugly at the same time.
Many thanks for your help - can anyone answer the question about the uneven shape?

The odd shape is a result of being hand made, I don't think a mould would have been used. Much of Mdina's production is wonky, all part of the charm.

I think these date to the '90s. It's the "Molina" sort of mark and I think I've seen at least one with a plastic label on. Not a lot of this pattern about, and as John said, all small things.
I have a tiny squat flattish pot with a flanged rim and an owl.
I like it, don't think it's ugly at all.  ;)
There was another range of the same small things, with a different but much ghastlier design on it - a baby pink matte background with blue random strapping and deeper pink splodges, lustred. :-X
