John Walsh Walsh glass flower holder in the shape of stylised lily; just under 12 inches tall. The opalescent flower trumpet sits atop a fluted and twisted citron stem. Registered design number 271422 to the base; design registered 21 February 1896.
(Permission for the re-use of these images on the GMB granted by Anne Polet).
Mervyn Gulliver shows the design representation with the lily stem more-or-less straight and flanked by a pair of leaves (p280, “Victorian Decorative Glass 1850-1914”).
The design is not mentioned or shown in Eric Reynolds’ “The Glass of John Walsh Walsh 1850-195”.
The photos will be added to the GMB RD database gallery shortly.
This is the first time I have seen an example of this particular registered design – does anyone have photos of variant examples (perhaps with leaves, different stem shape etc.) to show, please?
Fred.
