Hey guess what the full extent of the enquiry fits in the title.

Does it ring a bell, anyone?

well that's rather beautiful!
is it aventurine or gold leaf or something in the middle?   on my screen it looks lilac  :-\  it's not neodymium is it perhaps?

No there is no aventurine or other inclusions; what you see is the mark where the 4-prong pontil snapped off.

The piece may be related in colour to this 14.5 cm vase - which is properly finished with a ground and polished pontil. There is a similar gradation from amber to amethyst. Never managed to ID it either.

ps. actually it is more blue - so I guess this is Bluerina a.k.a. blue Amberina. Often associated with Boston & Sandwich - except I think this is relatively recent.

You could try emailing Don Carlson (USA) who has been using a 4 point pontil for a great many years.  His stuff is usually clearly marked but he may know a likely maker.
