I have an orange swirl paperweight that I am hoping someone can identify for me. The base is indented and the "mark" is raised above the surface. It is almost like an incomplete question mark. I think it is Australian. Thanks Chris

What you have was made in the UK - to be specific it is 'Isle of Wight Glass' and the flame is to the left. If it had been to the right it would be 'Kerry Glass'. I suspect it is quite early in their making but I am not expert enough to give you a pattern name or approximate date. Later pieces all seem to have polished bases and triangular black stickers that really stay on.

Thanks Ross,
As always a big help.
Kind regards

To be pedantic it was made at Isle of Wight Studio Glass (there being several glass makers on the island). There is no range for this one as such, many paperweights were made with colours that do not conform to the standard ranges. Date for this one will be somewhere between 1974 and around 1980 - the general time period that the flame pontil mark was used.

Many thanks John for the time period. It all helps!
