The designs quite sharp for moulded glass & it has a nice quality feel to it.
There's a tiny, 1mm '0' on the base, does anyone know what that could mean?
Thank you

I've had a few examples of this pattern over the years. Never found it in a catalogue, but always believed it to be by S. Reich and Co. Certainly it turns up in an opalescent and frosted version which has very much the same feel and finish as known Reich opalescent pieces...

The tiny O is probably the number of the pressing machine; I wonder if that pushes the item, if not the design, post WW2. Who took over Reich designs?
-
Certainly the bowl is made by Reich
1934 catalogue # 8938 (http://www.glas-musterbuch.de/Reich-ca-1934.375+B6YmFja1BJRD0zNzUmcHJvZHVjdElEPTE0OTM2JnBpZF9wcm9kdWN0PTM3NSZkZXRhaWw9.0.html)

Thank you everyone. Fantastic! Do you think its always been this odd plum colour or could have been artificially purpled, 'nuked'?
-
Also does anyone think its always had the figure or been converted?
-
I think the odd purple colour may fit with my post WW2 theory. Is it still purple under the fittings? It's probably always had the figure.
-
Thanks Lustrestone. There's no variation of colour on it at all. It has a faint green glow with a UV torch. I read somewhere that can be additives which can also make it turn purple if sat in the sun for years.
-
That's why I asked if it was purple under the fittings but as it is, it doesn't sound like sun purpling. It also doesn't look right for sun purpling
-
Thanks Lustrestone. Interesting you don't think it is purpling. i don't have any to compare it to. Its a funny colour to choose to have it in, not quite purple. Here's a photo of it in daylight :)
-
Could it be a swimming or diving award/trophy?
-
Back to my post WW2 and whoever took over Reich moulds. Quite a few of the Art Deco moulds were recreated/used by post war German companies.
Are you taking photos on your phone? When blown up they become grainy and lose colour and other definition. If not, resizing a higher resolution picture to 700 pixels longest dimension would give better results,
-
Hi Lustrestone, the daylight photo is a photo of a photo, so may not be great quality. The other photos were taken with an ipad & shrunk down to fit here by a friend. I don't know how else to get the photos small enough without losing definition :(
I wondered if it might be an award, or to grace the divers table at the '36 or '48 Olympics.
May i ask, Is it mainly the colour which makes you think its post WW2?
-
The colour and the 0 make me think possibly post WW2
-
Thanks Lustrestone.
I wonder if it was for the '48 Olympics? Maybe to grace a table rather than as a reward. I guess may never know.
-
The divers hair looks like a 'bob' haircut, more fashionable in the '20s &'30s. Though i bow to your superior knowledge:)

I found these figures, which look like by the same artist as the figure here. Unfortunately neither link know who they're by:(
