Hi - been lurking here for a while but haven't posted anything yet. I've come across this beauty and am 99% positive it's Vasart. It's not quite the same as any I've seen thus far - color (definitely) - mottled (yes), but the shape of the 'wings' on the hat all attach to the sides and it's more free flow. Anyway there's a distinct V on the bottom, but it doesn't seem to say the whole word Vasart. I like to be 100% sure, so I'm just checking with the experts here. Thanks for any insight :)

Hi,
Sorry, don't think it's Vasart - just wrong in every aspect!
No idea what it is though!
Could you add a picture of the base on its own at 125 KB (no bigger)
good luck,
Roberta

Thanks - here are a few more photos that may help. There are so many different views at each angle.

Hi,
Does it have any aqe wear to the base? is it heavy or light?
I'm thinking possibly Italian but that is just a guess!
Still can't clearly see the base - can you describe the pontil mark please.

It is not heavy. The base looks like it has the round type pontil like on the Vasart, but it is also very rough and sharp, yet doesn't affect the balance at all. It is like cased glass with a layer on the inside and out, but delicate - not dense like some of the Italian art glass. I'm not an expert so I hope you understand what that means. It is approx 5" tall. I was sure it looked a lot like the Vasart top hats I'd seen, except slightly a little different, although you think completely different. I know Vasart didn't catalog all of their pieces, so is it possible this could be an early one or something? It really does have similarities to some of the top hats I've seen, along with the mottled look. I'm just posting the ones I've found that lead me to this conclusion. You've probably seen these types already, though :)

Hi,
Yes, I have quite a collection of these ;D along with lots of other Vasart.
The mottled effect is completely different on yours, the pontil marks on the Vasart ones are usually ground, they are not left rough and sharp. So, unfortunately you need to look in another direction - where - I have no idea!
hope this is some help - probably not as now we have NO idea :'(

Thanks for your help! Hopefully someone else might come along who has more insight. This was the closest I had come, but now I'll just remain unsure :)

Hi Loveliez,
Please note that I have changed your selection of three images of Vasart items to links to the actual source photos (although the first one is no longer available) as the Board has a strict policy on using copyrighted images.
