Title: Bulbous / crackled Vase I/D please ?
Post by: malcmat on April 23, 2014, 05:32:05 PM
Hi, this bulbous / crackled glass vase is 5.750 inches tall and 3.125 inches dia and glows under a UV light. the decoration is enamelled and the base fire polished flat with a small concave pontil mark. I was thinking maybe Moser but not sure.

Many thanks

Malc

I'm very tempted to say Legras but I'm sure M. will come up with a Bohemian name instead.

I don't recognise the black outline enamels, but the crackle and colour remind me of this piece

and this piece has a handle which is very similar to a jug in Truitt's Bohemian Glass page 54 listed under Harrach  1875-1905.  The only  difference is that in the book the handle forms a ring that goes right around the body at the bottom and attachs at the top with the 'ropes' split so one either side of the neck under the rim, with a prunt.  Whereas the one I've linked to has the handle attaching with the ring going right around the neck and then the 'ropes' split at the body and attached separately with prunts.
The small pontil mark might lead me to look at them rather than French first as well.
So because of that, I'd look at Harrach first :)  But I couldn't say who enamelled them.  It's difficult to know as Harrach made glass for other refiners/finishers and also had their own enamelling team.

I'm just having a quick look around - the enamelling reminds me of some pieces I've seen id'd as Fritz Heckert.
It is possible these were made by Harrach say and enamelled by Fritz Heckert.  No matches so far but I did come across this one 'signed F.H. 4737/29'
